Mariel Rodriguez strikes again inside "PBB" house

Mariel Rodriguez should be singing "Oops, I Did It Again!" while inside the Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) house.

Maraming naging issue si Mariel sa first stint niya as special houseguest sa PBB Celebrity Edition Season 2. Matatandaang sa loob ng Bahay ni Kuya narinig kung paano niya laitin ang mga contestant ng kinu-co-host niyang noontime show na Wowowee, na mababaho raw ang mga ito. Nasabihan din niyang baduy ang pinanggalingan niyang network na GMA-7, while talking with another ex-Kapuso talent na si Megan Young.

Nang pansamantalang pinalabas si Mariel sa PBB house, humingi siya ng dispensa sa audience sa mga inasal niya—subtly implying that some of the things she'd done ay dahil sa pag-uutos ni Kuya para mailabas ang tunay na ugali ng ibang celebrity housemates.

Friday night, December 28, sa 24/7 live stream ng PBB, pagkarami-rami ang nag-react sa pagmumura ni Mariel sa celebrity housemate na si Riza Santos habang lasing na nakikipag-usap ang PBB co-host kay Ethel Booba.

In the middle of the stag party with a Reggae theme for Ruben Gonzaga, na ikakasal pagkalabas sa Bahay ni Kuya, na-focus ang camera sa pag-uusap nina Mariel at Ethel. Ang isa pang co-housemate nilang si Will Devaughn ang subject ng usapan nila na tumakbo ng ganito:

ETHEL: Nakatingin ako kay Will, e. Hopeless na.
MARIEL: Hindi ka hopeless.
ETHEL: Gusto ko siya.
MARIEL: Totoo na ito?

Ano naman kayang paliwanag ang gagawin ngayon ni Mariel sa naging asal niyang ito sa loob ng Bahay ni Kuya? Ano rin kaya ang magiging reaksiyon ni Kuya at ng manager ni Mariel na si Boy Abunda?

Mariel's Happy Return

Tonight, we have glimpsed the conclusion of Gladys voluntary exit which weighed heavily on Big Sister. Big Brother checked in on her twice to make sure that everything's going smoothly despite Gladys protests to come out. Her depression lasted throughout day 57 and reached its climax when she burst into tears just when they were about to carry out their gift-giving activity. As such, everyone gathered in the girls bedroom to comfort her, leaving the 30 chosen kids waiting for the merry event to start. After the Queen of Patawa's sobs died down, she then told them to proceed with the task without her.

The experience certainly brought in the spirit of Christmas for the Santa Housemates met the
kids in person and even gave them a sleigh ride in the garden. Baron acted as Santa Claus while the rest of the guys played as his reindeers. They later reflected on the blessing of becoming instruments in bestowing joy through such simple endeavors. For them, seeing the young ones brighten up upon receiving their gifts was truly a priceless experience.

The next morning proved to be a better one for both Gladys and Big Sister. Though the Queen of Patawa was still unyielding towards her decision to leave, she's calm enough to wait for Big Brother's return. Hearing his voice in the middle of their afternoon game immediately lightened her mood, knowing that the time had finally arrived for her to leave. Together with the housemates, she found the consent she's been asking for and left without the grandeur that usually marked a Saturday Eviction Night.

Not long after that, Big Brother called Jon in the confession room for the exclusive privilege of unraveling Big Sister's location in the secret room. In true PBB fashion, Mariel's homecoming was kept in suspense for sometime as the English Outcast fooled around by trying to emulate Big Brother's voice. What's more, he was the first one to welcome her in the flesh! Baron later joined them but he quickly went out to give the "lovebirds" their privacy. Then finally, everyone sought Mariel in her hideout to give her warm hugs for her happy return.

Now that Gaby dropped her earlier decision to leave and both Mariel and Ethel are back as houseguests with a mission.

Hello Mariel! Good-bye Donnie! Hello Ethel? Good-bye Gaby?

A week outside the yellow house left Mariel longing for her fellow housemates, who had a very fun week with their anime and good will tasks. This evening, Kuya asked Mariel if she wanted to go back and stay with the HMs and the pretty host said yes. With Big Brother off to an official business next week, he puts Mariel in-charge of the whole household as the Big Sister. Mariel gladly accepted the task, which will begin tomorrow. How would the HMs react to her presence again plus additional authority from Kuya?

In the other hand, Donnie was the fifth evictee. Will walked away with 39.42% of the votes. Jon took in 33.15% while Donnie ended up with 27.43%. Like the HMs before him Donnie left his footprints at the Celebrity Walk of Fame.

Toni also broke the news of Gaby wanting to make a voluntary exit after finishing her punishment for damaging her lapel mic in the pool. Gaby explained that during her first exit, she really wanted to stay for she felt that there were a lot of things yet for her to experience. But after her ‘come back’, she suddenly just felt that she has already experienced everything there is inside. Big Brother though gave her time to re-think her decision. He in turn will also analyze the situation and give her a final answer soon.

Kuya actually has not only this to think about but another former HM’s request just recently. The Ultimate Pasaway has come knocking on his door one more and is asking for a second chance. “OK na ako, OK na ang puso ko,” was Ethel’s opening statement to Kuya. She also told him that a lot of things definitely changed for her outside his house besides her love life. “Paglabas ko wala na akong kaibigan…Nakita nila ang totoong Ethel, kaya lumayo sila…Iba na ang trato ng tao sa akin noong lumabas ako kasi may respeto. I thank you for that. Pati family ko nakilala ako.” Ethel gratefully told Big Brother. She then expressed her reasons for wanting to return to his abode and finish the entire season. “Gusto ko sila samahan hanggang matapos ‘to, pwede ba tayong magtulungan?”

Mariel takes the stage!

Mariel first did a tap dance number with Victor and Megan. Victor was the one who taught Mariel how to tap dance since the Lonely Dreamboy had been studying the moves since he was in high school after seeing the Australian film "Bootmen." At first, Mariel was reluctant in learning tap dance, but after a series of rehearsals with Victor, she managed to put on a great show for her housemates.

Afterwards, Mariel faced her worst fear when she took the microphone and sang with Mcoy. Mariel sang "If Ever I See You Again," the housemates' eviction-theme originally composed by the Musikerong Daddy himself. Mcoy played the guitar and sang back-up to help Mariel. Despite a couple of mishaps, Mariel was able sing, although she failed to hold back the tears because of the song's touching lyrics. Finally, Mariel showed her tough side as she showcased some basic taekwondo moves with Donnie. With Donnie's 7th place win in the 2004 Athens Olympics, there was no other housemate who can best teach Mariel all those kicks and punches. Despite her size, Mariel proved that she can also be rough and hard. After the show, all the celebrity housemates cheered Mariel for the simple yet meaningful achievement of hers. Mariel thanked everyone for she wouldn't have been able to perform without their help.

Megan and Mariel Do The Sudoku

Is this a night of reliving some of the memorable happenings in PBB Season 2? Not really. It just happens that Megan's background and traits are somehow similar to the much-loved Cheering Chick. Both are mainstays in the nomination block, they are not used to doing chores and they both have a penchant for sudoku puzzles. Perhaps that's why Kuya also made her wash a giant PBB shirt few days ago to expand her experience in life just like Gee-Ann.

This time, Big Brother had something different in store for the Princess of Charm. He gave her a mentally-stimulating task to accomplish this afternoon. Instead of the usual Sudoku booklet, she was given an illustration board where a 9x9 partially completed grid was drawn. But instead of numbers, pictures of her loved ones, friends and crushes were used in this game. The objective is to fill the rows and columns using the given photos just once.

With the help of Mariel who got a crash course on Sudoku, Megan was trying to finish it since this late afternoon. But they were distracted by witty conversations and of course the various challenges for the day. Many times she had to start from scratch, which happens to be her technique before she can actually complete everything, she confided to Victor. But it simply wasn't working this time, she added.

After eight hours or so, she and Mariel finally made it! They pointed out that all they had to do was take a break from the strenuous activity. Guessing a bit also helped, Megan cheerfully uttered.

In the meantime, 2-in-1 housemate Barron and Donnie are currently making up for the former's violation yesterday. The Wild Child continued to sleep on the bedroom long after the wake up call was sounded.As their punishment, Baron has to sleep on a hard bench with Donni fanning him like a slave the whole night! In addition to that, the Good Brother has to carry him on his back whenever they have to move around. Let's hope the two won't get eaten up by the mosquitoes outside.

Pleasant surprise for the Racing Godess by Mariel, Donni, Ruben, Riza and Will

Big Brother decided to connive with Mariel, Donni, Ruben, Riza and Will. Whether they were asked to make a sacrifice or a pleasant surprise for the Racing Godess remains to be seen. But for now, what's made privy to all of us is the special task which they started to accomplish right after they played tug-o-war.

With a touch of irony, they were told to take a bath first before proceeding to the storage room where their costumes lay in waiting for them. There the five selected celebrities covered their bodies with paint, following a unified checkered flag design, which we mostly see in circuits. To complete their outfit, they wore a strapped-tire on their waists. Then they came out of hiding by skating around the house with their brand new roller blades!

Naturally, Gab immediately realized that the task is related to her. She asked if it was a punishment but Mariel said no. Other than that, the five of them were tight-lipped regarding their "secret mission" which is extended till later. In fact, they were instructed to sleep on the living room for tonight with their costumes on!

Mariel Rodriguez (born Maria Erlinda Termulo on August 10, 1984) is a Filipino model and TV host. She used to be a host in Extra Challenge, a show in GMA-7 before eventually transferring to rival station ABS-CBN, where she was one of three hosts of the Philippine franchise of reality show Big Brother, Pinoy Big Brother, Season 1 along with Toni Gonzaga and Bianca Gonzales.

Mariel Rodriguez reluctantly joins Jon Avila and Ethel Booba inside Kuya's House

Big Brother took everyone by surprise when he "declared" Mariel Rodriguez a celebrity housemate through a letter that was read by Uber co-host Bianca Gonzalez yesterday, October 17.

No one was more shocked than the Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition 2 host herself, who thought she was just accompanying newly arrived housemate Jon Avila inside the confession room. Mariel was doing her usual hosting routine for PBB Celebrity Uber when Big Brother informed her that she would be staying inside his house for a while. This was totally unexpected, and probably scary for her, especially since she has always been outspoken about her greatest fear—being locked up inside the house as a housemate.

Apparently, this twist had been planned out well by Big Brother, with the host's manager, Boy Abunda, in the know. A pre-taped VTR of his message was shown to Mariel and the housemates, telling her not to blame Kuya but himself. Boy said he believed she would be a better person when her time inside the Big Brother house was up.

Mariel told the housemates that there had been hints and signs that she would be tricked into something like this—her schedule was blocked off for the next two weeks—but she didn't really give it serious thought. On the part of Big Brother, this was the only way he could get Mariel. He had been trying to convince her since PBB Celebrity Season 1 but she was always adamant in remaining outside the house's confines.

Now that Mariel is not just the "Kapitbahay ni Kuya" but a certified housemate, would there be some connivance between her and Big Brother, like a special personal task of snooping around the housemates?

Joining Mariel and the other housemates are Jon Avila, who entered the house during Uber Live, wearing only board shorts that displayed his killer abs, and Ethel Booba, who gave the housemates a show during Primetime live. Mariel got the shock of her life when she ended up as a housemate in the reality show Wednesday night.

The unexpected twist in PBB’s celebrity edition happened when Rodriguez was asked by Big Brother to accompany the latest addition to the housemates, model-actor John Avila, inside the PBB house.

It dawned on the bubbly TV host that it was a trap a little too late. She made a dash for the exit without finishing a spiel in front of the housemates only to realize that Big Brother has locked her inside his house.

She eagerly told us the news that the second installment of ABS-CBN's Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition will officially unfold this coming October.

"Sa October 14 magbubukas na ulit ang house ni Kuya, I'm so excited," she yelped while making her way inside the venue.

As far as Wowowee is concerned, Mariel confided that she, and everyone involved with the show, is moving on after the "Wilyonaryo" fiasco that transpired last month.

"Syempre," she acknowledged when asked if the controversy affected her. "I'm part of the show, e. I get affected, lahat kami."

But there's no use crying over spilled milk as they say, so for now, Mariel would rather work to entertain the noontime viewers.

"We've moved on. I think we have to move on. Everyday we just try to make the show better which is try to make people happy. Kasi, like ako, personally wala naman akong ginagawang masama," she said.

She would also rather stay clear of the Joey de Leon-Willie Revillame feud, as she has nothing to gain from it.

"Kasi it's not my battle, so I'm in no position or whatsoever," Mariel politely said before adding, "And ayoko s'yang kalabanin sa totoo lang. Nirerespeto ko siya dahil he's Joey de Leon."

Wowowee co-host and Pinoy Big Brother presenter Mariel Rodriguez has appeared in the June 2007 edition of Maxim Magazine (Philippines). Mariel (born Maria Erlinda Termulo) talks about her career, Wowowee and her personality as well as posing for photographs. Such a move might be considered quite bold by more conservative Filipino women and even Mariel herself was having seconds thoughts but is happy now she's done it.

Mariel began her career in Rouge, a TV action/adventure series from Singapore for MTV Asia about an all female rock band also working as operatives for a crime busting organisation. She was noticed in the show and became an MTV VJ. Later she was a host in Extra Challenge, a Filipino reality show. Now she's perhaps best known for hosting Pinoy Big Brother and the noon-time entertainment show Wowowee alongside co-host Roxanne Guinoo who also appeared in Maxim Magazine, in March 2007.

Cosmo girl Mariel Rodriguez: Single by choice

Mariel Rodriguez is decidedly single by choice. While others may wonder why such a beautiful lady would choose to be single, she does have quite a lot on her hands. With daily hosting stints on Wowowee and midnight updates on Pinoy Big Brother, Mariel manages to have only four hours of sleep. Just where would she find the time to squeeze in a boyfriend?

"Right now, I wouldn't be able to give everything and the time that a boyfriend needs," she tells Cosmopolitan magazine this April. What about Zanjoe Marudo, whose name has been repeatedly linked to hers? "We don't have an anniversary, and we don't say ‘I love you', but we talk, we text. I know what's happening with his life, he knows what's happening with mine. It's just better that we're friends," she shares.

For now, work is really Mariel's top priority. Truth be told, Mariel's dream is to become a dramatic actress in either soap operas or movies. "[But] whenever I say I want to be a dramatic actress, they say, 'comedy ka, eh.'" She adds, "That's my goal, but I'm far from that goal."

The daily showbiz grind is rich with learning experiences, and Mariel gets by on her own brand of buoyancy. "It's okay to make mistakes because you can redeem yourself tomorrow," she says, "There's always room for improvement. I just think, tomorrow, I will be fabulous."
