Mariel Rodriguez defends Christmas gift of boyfriend Zanjoe Marudo

"It's a white-gold heart shaped necklace with diamonds, so I don't know why people make it api. Nahihiya nga ako kay Zanjoe, naaawa ako sa kanya," sabi ni Mariel.

Dagdag niya, "I love it and it was not even an issue. Alam mo ba na I was the only person na pinag-isipan ni Zanjoe ng gift?

THE SECRET OF A HAPPY RELATIONSHIP.

"We're okay, we're happy," sabi ni Mariel. "I'm so happy nga for him dahil sobrang busy siya ngayon. Dyosa just ended, mayroon siyang Weddings, Parekoy, and mayroon pang isang soap na big time talaga.

"For a relationship like us to work out, kailangan talaga you have to be understanding. He has no time in the world because of his sked."

TWO SHOWS. Happy with her love life and showbiz career, sinabi ni Mariel na sobra niyang mahal at ine-enjoy ang dalawang shows na ipinagkatiwala sa kanya ng ABS-CBN—ang Entertainment Live at Wowowee.

"I'm fabulous and I'm very happy!" bulalas ni Mariel. "I love E-Live kasi matagal ko nang kasama ang mga co-host ko dito, so we're very comfortable with each other. Kita mo naman kami ni Luis [Manzano], kumportable kami sa isa't isa. Si Toni [Gonzaga], from the very start pa lang, and si Bianca [Gonzales] na friend ko na ever since. I'm happy with the show and I love it so much. I'm used na sa mga intriga. Kailangan because it's our job, trabaho namin yun.

"Magti-three years na kami sa Wowowee. Masaya and nakita ko na ngayon na pamilya talaga kaming lahat, even the staff. So, sobrang mahal ko rin yung show," pagtatapos ni Mariel.

Fashion 101 from Mariel & Bianca

Mariel Rodriguez and Bianca Gonzalez offer tips that can make girls and women look like celebrities. Bianca and Mariel are endorsers of Meg Clothing line. Both were commercial and ramp models before showbiz beckoned. On stage and television, Bianca and Mariel are aware that what they wear has an impact on their audience.

They feel some kind of responsibility to the public and at the same time they have to express their individuality.

“Do not confine yourself to what people say you should wear. Individuality is important. Wear what you feel is comfortable and what is appropriate for the occasion,” says Bianca. And most of the time, girls going out on a first date are always at a quandary on what to wear. Is it dress down or dress up? Does she have to impress her date with big chunky jewelry? Does she have to wear jeans or a gown? Is wearing shorts okay on a first date? The answers are as diverse as the types of girls there are in this planet.

In their line of work as TV hosts, Bianca and Mariel may be considered image-savvy. They’ve collaborated with designers to create their red carpet looks. They’ve talked with fashion stylists on star dressing. Their exposure through travel has helped them cultivate their own style. For these reasons, Meg has chosen Bianca and Mariel as its image models/endorsers.

Many girls have come up to Bianca and Mariel for fashion advice. These two reveal, “Most of the time, they ask, ‘What should I wear on a date?’ or ‘What’s the best outfit for a date?’”

Some tips from Mariel and Bianca:

Dress for the location and the occasion. Mariel and Bianca advise that a girl should choose her outfit based on where her date is taking her, whether to the mall, a coffee shop, a restaurant or to the movies. Wear clothes you would usually wear to these places, but the trick though is to elevate the outfit one level higher. They suggest, “So if you always wear jeans and a T-shirt when you go to Starbucks, why not wear a skirt or a dress for a change?” Mariel says, “Dapat maganda, pero nothing too flashy, especially for a first date. Dapat yung pinakamaganda mong outfit pero dapat effortless pa rin ang dating. Dapat mukhang hindi ka masyadong naghanda.”

Strike a balance. Related to that is to be tastefully sexy. “Hindi dapat masyadong slutty. Puwedeng may konting sexiness factor,” says Mariel. For a dinner date, Bianca suggests a white polo and black high-waisted pants which are the latest fashion must-haves.

Natural makeup completes the look. A great outfit wouldn’t work if the makeup isn’t right. “Guys prefer the natural look,” says Bianca. “Scared sila kapag mukha kang fully made up.”

Both recommend that a nice shade of lipstick and a cheek tint are enough to bring out the natural beauty to give a young lady a lovely glow.

Dress up like you’re always ready for a date. A girl should always look her best, not for anybody, but for herself. Looking great and feeling great are interrelated. “So dress up like you always have a date,” says Mariel.

“In other words,” says Bianca. “Don’t be caught wearing something pangit!”

Mariel admits 'little' alteration of her latest sexy photos

Actress Mariel Rodriguez revealed that there was indeed a 'little' alteration made to her latest sexy photos for a popular men's magazine.

"May konti friends, ang big niya (referring to her chest) in fairness... thank you for the technology talaga. Maraming salamat sa computer. Parang sobra siyang laki parang sa totoong buhay hindi siya ganyan," Rodriguez said.

The actress-host said that she that does not want to lie on the pictures and explained that the alteration was only made to create illusion and enhance her figure.

Despite the help of modern technology, Rodriguez said she is really excited about her latest project. She invited everyone to grab a copy of the FHM magazine that will be out soon.

"I super duper love it. I'm so proud," she said.

Rodriguez, one of the co-hosts of ABS-CBN's popular noontime show "Wowowee", explained her reasons for doing the pictorial.

"I just did it for Hot Pink (a sexy underwear line owned by her sister) basically, but no, I'm not going to change. It's still me. I don't think I'm gonna do any sexy pictorial anytime soon so buy this one na," she ended.

Mariel Rodriguez to grace FHM cover

Television host-actress Mariel Rodriguez bared that she has once again posed sexy, this time for the cover of men’s magazine FHM.

Rodriguez shared that she was made to wear lingerie during the photo shoot, which she branded as the “sexiest pictorial I did.” Last year, the television host posed for another men’s magazine, Maxim.

“There was one super backless talaga, panty lang, ‘yong likod bare, super sexy talaga,” she told reporters during the press launch of the new celebrity endorsers of beauty clinic Calayan Surgicenter.

She said she lost some weight just for the photo shoot.

“Kailangan maging sexy, kasi sexy si ‘Dyosa.’ Kailangan maging sexy si Varga,” she said in jest, referring to television series "Dyosa" starring Anne Curtis and boyfriend Zanjoe Marudo.

Rodriguez played the heroine in “Mars Ravelo’s Komiks Presents” Varga.

When asked if she sought Marudo’s permission before her sexy pictorial, she said: “Alam niya. Wala siyang sinabi. I just told him I was doing it. Sabi niya, ‘Talaga?’ Tapos sabi niya, ‘O di ba, favorite mo yang FHM?’ Niloloko niya ako pag nakikita niya ang [FHM]. Kahit hindi pa ako ‘yong latest FHM, ‘O, ikaw.’ ‘Di naman ako yan.’ ‘Ah, akala ko ikaw yan.’ Gumaganyan siya.”

Rodriguez added that the magazine will be a perfect “hot gift” to men.

Zanjoe takes pride in Mariel being the 'fantasy' of men

Model turned actor Zanjoe Marudo is proud that many men find his girlfriend, Wowowee host Mariel Rodriguez, desirable. "Mas maganda 'yun. Kung ang girlfriend mo pinagpapantasyahan ng ibang tao ibig sabihin suwerte ka," he said.

"Proud din ako na at least kahit papaano 'yung girlfriend ko nagugustuhan din ng ibang lalaki. Kahit asawa mo na 'yan hindi naman mapipigilan na magustuhan ng ibang tao," he emphasized.

For this, he feels lucky to be Mariel's boyfriend. It is not a big deal for him if guys get attracted to Mariel. Zanjoe describes that he is very happy with the status of their relationship even if they don't go out as much.

Since both of them are busy with work, Zanjoe revealed that whenever they get the chance go out, they make the most out of it. "Kunwari may family gathering sila, minsan a-attend ako o kaya sa amin. Hindi na 'yung para lang makita siya sa taping tatakbuhin ko pa siya. Kailangan talaga, pag busy sige work muna."

He shared that they both have agreed that work will be their priority. He explained that he and Mariel are fully aware that projects don't always come so they grab every opportunity that comes their way.

"Darating din naman 'yung time na maraming bakanteng araw. Tsaka mas masaya 'yung ganon. Hindi kayo mauumay sa isa't isa, mami-miss n'yo ang isa't isa," Zanjoe shared.

Their lack of time together is compensated by constant communication via text messaging and calls. "Maaga pa lang nilatag na namin 'yung sitwasyon. Hindi kami tutulad sa iba na magbabantay o dumadalaw sa set. Hindi requirement 'yon. Kailangan trabaho pa rin," explained Zanjoe.

He said that with this set-up, they won't have regrets on having to give up projects.

Zanjoe currently appears in Dyosa and the recently ended Komiks Presents Mars Ravelo’s Varga. He also top bills the Cinema One Originals digital film "Altar", a suspense thriller which will be showing soon in selected theaters in Metro Manila.

Body Talk with Mariel Rodriguez

A day in the life of Wowowee co-host Mariel Rodriguez goes this way:

She wakes up at 8:30 a.m., takes a cup of coffee, prepares what she needs for the day, leaves her condo unit in Wack-Wack (Mandaluyong City) at 10 and by 10:30 she is at her dressing room in ABS-CBN for her make-up (by Edwin Aguilar who has been with her ever since). The show starts at 12:30 p.m. but she and co-hosts Valerie Concepcion, Pokwang and others have to be at the studio early because the main host, their “Pappy” Willie (Revillame), sometimes wants to rehearse out of the blue.

After Wowowee at around 3 p.m., Mariel attends to other activities, such as pictorials and interviews. If the Wowowee barkada has a show abroad, she tapes for advance episodes. She never forgets to squeeze in time for her boyfriend, Zanjoe Marudo. She goes home early, takes a light dinner, relaxes a bit by reading or watching TV and DVDs, and then goes to bed at 1 a.m.

“I am lucky pa nga because my schedule is not as bad as that of soap stars,” said Mariel. “I don’t have to work overnight. My daily routine is just like that of an ordinary office girl. I actually have a lot of spare time.”

Mariel has been in showbiz for four years. She had her debut on a TV action-adventure series in Singapore where she (and Denise Laurel) stayed for six months. Back home, she guested on Extra Challenge (the defunct GMA show hosted by Paolo Bediones) and joined MTV. Then, she moved to ABS-CBN and did Ok Fine Whatever (with Aga Muhlach, et al) and Pinoy Big Brother (PBB where she met Zanjoe) before she landed in Wowowee in 2006.

Mariel stands 5’3”, measures 34-26-34, and wears small-size shirt and size-seven shoes.

Do you eat three square meals a day...on time?

“No problem with that. We do potluck every day. I bring rice and Valerie the viand. The others also bring some food. We eat together in-between the segments.”

What kind of diet do you have?

“I eat anything except mayonnaise, pickles and liver. I love Filipino food. Iba pa rin ang may rice. Favorite dish? Sinigang.”

What vitamins do you take?

“Enervon-C. You know, more energy mas happy.”

What about snacks?

“I love sweets — for more energy. Sometimes, I take junk food. Ay, bad!”

With your kind of schedule, do you get enough sleep?

“I get an average of seven to eight hours per night. No, I don’t have any problem falling asleep.”

Favorite sleep wear?

“Comfortable pajamas and Hotpink lingerie. You know what, I really dress up for bed. I notice that women in the Philippines are not cautious when they go to bed. They put on a duster or a big T-shirt and that’s it. They are comfortable, all right. Pero siempre I believe na mas maganda ang tulog mo kung maganda rin ang suot mo. It’s important to wear the right underwear which should match your top. If you’re wearing white pajamas, kadiri naman kung loud ang kulay ng underwear mo, di ba? When I was in Big Brother’s house, most of my underwear were by Hotpink.”

How many pillows do you sleep with?

“Six, but I don’t use all. I put one under my head, one on each side and the rest basta andyan lang.”

Do you snore?

“Only when I’m really, really tired.”

Do you talk in your sleep?

“I do! Kahit tulog ako, madaldal pa rin. Hehehehehe! Inside Big Brother’s house, Ethel (Booba, her housemate) would tell me, ‘O, nagsasalita ka na naman!’ She said na mayroon daw akong inaaway but I didn’t know who.”

You don’t sleepwalk, do you?

“Thank God, I don’t! Baka kung saan ako mapunta.”

What’s the last thing that you do before you go to sleep?

“I pray...for my loved ones.”

And the first thing that you do when you wake up?

“As soon as the alarm clock in my cell phone rings, I check ‘missed calls’ and messages. I usually put my celfon on ‘silent’ mode before I go to sleep.”

How do you cope with stress?

“I get a massage every day. I’m addicted to it. There are masseurs at ABS-CBN...’yung shoulder massage lang naman. Or I listen to my favorite songs on my iPod. And yes, I read dumb and stupid books, like books about shopping; nothing heavy. I do read novels by Dan Brown every now and then. Or I watch romantic-comedies and suspense movies on DVD. I don’t watch horror movies at night, otherwise I get so scared that I can’t sleep. Grabe ang imagination ko.”

Do you work out?

“Not often, not at all! I’m more of a diet person. When I have to lose weight, I’d rather go on a diet than work out, which is wrong I know. But since I’m hyper-active, I guess I’m doing enough exercise. I’m always moving; I can’t stay put for long.”

What part of your body needs improvement?

“My thighs and my arms.”

What part is most vulnerable?

“Siempre, my heart!”

And what part is your favorite?

“My shoulders. They’re nice, di ba?”

How’s your love life? How are you and Zanjoe?

“We’ve been ‘on’ for less than a year. I’d known him for a while, we were going out, but I got to know him better and we started going steady only after we came out of Big Brother’s house.”

Is he your first showbiz boyfriend?

“He’s the first. I’ve had two, both not from showbiz. Zanjoe and I compliment each other. I’m madaldal and he is quiet. I’m hyper and he’s not.”

What’s your outlook in life?

“Optimistic. Why worry?”

You are hoarse. Did you get that from hosting Wowowee?

“No. Bata pa lang ako, paos na talaga ako.”

Name three guys who you think have nice bodies?

“Zanjoe, of course! Jon Avila. Derek Ramsay.”

And three women...

“Angelica Panganiban. Cristine Reyes. RR Enriquez.”

Using only body language, how would you make a guy know that you admire him?

“I look at him and smile.”
